Reading List 2023

I set a goal to read 80 books in 2023. Follow along as I work *slowly* towards creating a habit of daily reading.

January 2023

  1. Into the Water by Paula Hawkins
  2. What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty
  3. The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse
  4. Triptych by Karin Slaughter
  5. The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave

January recap:

First three reads were all a solid 3-stars. Each was easy to read, had a compelling story line and a couple fun twists. If I had to rank them, The Sanatorium would be at the top of the list, Into the Water in the middle and What Alice Forgot closing out.

I read Triptych in two days; The Last Thing He Told Me in one day. Highly recommend both.

February 2023

  1. The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

February recap:

Low read volume month; gotta get some work done in March to get back on track. The Last Mrs. Parrish was another two day read; easily digestible with a fun twist.

March 2023

  1. McNally’s Trial by Lawrence Sanders
  2. False Witness by Karin Slaughter

March recap:

McNally’s Trial took me a couple months to get through. The writing style was a little too superfluous for me, so I probably wouldn’t read another book by this author. The storyline was ok, the mystery not overly covert or groundbreaking.

False Witness, on the other hand, highly recommend. First read of the year that contained enough depth to elicit emotion. Don’t get me wrong, the usual fast-read-fodder formula of mysterious death investigated by normal guy/gal character thrust into the role of unlikely detective, etc is there; but there’s some grit here too. Overall, great read.

April 2023

  1. One By One by Ruth Ware (currently reading)
  2. Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll (currently reading)
