Final Verdict

Features: lululemon

Based on the website details, both jackets seem to have similar features. Both are water-repellent and have a cinchable bottom hem. While the Athleta jacket is abrasion-resistant, the lululemon jacket is wind resistant – so maybe a trade-off there, depending on what you’re looking for. lululemon takes the win on this category though bc of the stowable hood; the Athleta version doesn’t have a hood and what good is a water-repellent jacket if it isn’t going to help keep my hair dry?

Fit: tie

Both of these jackets are designed to fit loose/relaxed, both have a high collar and both are a cropped length.

Fabric: tie

The Athleta site didn’t provide as many details as the lululemon site on material breakdowns, but both appear to be made primarily of Nylon, so this category is a wash for me.

Price: Athleta

The biggest differential between these two jackets was price. The lululemon Always Effortless is full price at $128 while the Athleta Canopy Parachute Short is on sale for $40 (down from $158).

Colors: lululemon

The lululemon jacket won out on color choices, with 7 options, while the Athleta jacket only comes in 3 colors.

Buyer Reviews: tie

Buyer reviews were pretty even. Although the lululemon jacket had far more reviews than the Athleta jacket, the 5-star percentages were pretty close. The lululemon Always Effortless Jacket had 185 reviews with 67% of reviewers awarding 5 stars. The Athleta Canopy Parachute Jacket Short had 28 reviews with 64% of reviewers awarding 5 stars.

Winner: lululemon Always Effortless Jacket

Although Athleta’s $40 price tag is very attractive, I don’t see the point in a light rain jacket that I wouldn’t actually wear when it’s raining (bc of the lack of hood). The lululemon Always Effortless also offers a wider color selection, which I really like (Frontier, Porcelain Pink and Rustic Coral all caught my eye!). So, for me, the lululemon jacket wins this first round of #lululemonvsAthleta.
